Gillette, WY – Three second half goals helped the Golden Eagles men's soccer team to a 3-1 Region IX win over Gillette College Wednesday.
LCCC (1-8, 1-2), which posted a 20-14 advantage in shots, picked up its first win of the year.
Eddie Mercado (Las Vegas, Nevada) opened the afternoon's scoring with a goal in the 65th minute as Aaron Barber (Cheyenne, Wyoming) tapped a ball to him. The goal is Mercado's second on the season. Blake Mathews (Fort Collins, Colorado) made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute after scoring off a corner kick. Six minutes later, Ricardo Vazquez (Denver, Colorado) finished off a cross from Dalton Young (Gillette, Wyoming) to tack on the third goal.
The navy and gold were then recipients of a poorly cleared ball that found its way to a Donovan Odier who got Gillette on the board in the 87th minute.
Angel Alvarez (Las Vegas, Nevada) tallied six saves in the match.
Laramie County will be at home on Saturday as they host Sheridan College in Region IX action at 1:30 p.m.
