Jim Gardner enters his 17th season with the Golden Eagles women’s soccer program. In addition, he coaches the girls’ soccer team at East High School.

He taught and has coached for LCSD#1 for the 34 years. He was involved with the Cheyenne Sting Club, as a coach, board member and president for 10 years.  He has also coached wrestling at East high school for 22 years and coached the J. E. Jumpers jump rope team in the late 80's and early 90"s.  

 Gardner helped coach the co-ed club soccer team in 2002 at LCCC. When the LCCC board of trustees approved a NJCAA Division I women’s soccer team in 2003, Gardner was named head coach and has been the only coach in the program’s history.

In 2017, Gardner led the Golden Eagles to their 15th consecutive winning season with an 18-2 record. The Golden Eagles reached the Region IX title game for the 14th consecutive season and for the 11th time were Region IX champions. They then advanced to the national tournament where they lost in pool play 7-3 to ASA Brooklyn.

Gardner has an overall record of 223-61-26 at LCCC. He has captured 11 Region IX Championships, nine District B Championships and has guided his team to the NJCAA National Tournament nine times: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. He has been named the Region IX Coach of the Year eight times and was named the NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 2013. His teams have placed third three time at the national tournament, and are still looking to someday be national champions.

Over the course of his career at LCCC, Gardner has produced 29 All-Americans, 11 Academic All-Americans and 74 All-Region IX performers.

He has taken home many awards at the high school level being named Wyoming High School South Conference Coach of the Year six times, Wyoming State Soccer Coach of the Year five times, National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s (NSCAA) and NHASCA National Coach of the Year in 2016. He is the only coach to have been awarded the NSCAA Region Coach of the Year for both high school and college and the only coach to be named NSCAA and NHSACA National Coach of the Year in the same year. 

Gardner has his USSF National “B” license and the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
