CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Golden Eagles men's soccer team pulled through a tough match at home, defeating Otero Junior College 4-1 at home in Region IX action on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the 4th minute on a penalty kick goal from Manny Tapia (Longmont, Colorado). Otero answered with a goal of their own in the 18th minute by Gianluca Mazza.
The Golden Eagles (10-3 overall, 9-0 Region IX) were able to build some momentum in the second half, and continued to press the action in the attack. Tapia would give LCCC the lead again in the 68th minute on cross from Noe Ortiz-Pena (Aurora, Colorado). In the 79th minute, Ortiz-Pena doubled the lead for Laramie County as he followed up a rebound on a shot from Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah). Cameron Broadhurt (Broomfield, Colorado) got the fourth in the 88th minute on a penalty kick to round out the scoring.
Declan Domyan (Johannesburg, South Africa) finished with a save on the day for the Golden Eagles, who outshot the Rattlers 21-10. The majority of that advantage coming the second half where the Golden Eagles held a 14-3 edge.
The Golden Eagles are back on the field Sunday against Trinidad State Junior College. Kickoff is at Noon.
