Twin Falls, Idaho – August 30, 2025
Laramie County Community College men's soccer secured a strong 3–1 road win over the College of Southern Idaho on Saturday afternoon, powered by an early strike from sophomore midfielder Gilberto Vargas and a second-half brace from Tristan Villanueva.
Fast Start for the Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles wasted little time setting the tone, with Vargas finding the back of the net just 2:15 into the match. Pouncing on a loose ball, he calmly slotted home the opening goal to give LCCC a 1–0 lead.
The home side responded in the 18th minute when CSI's Okito Rwankuba equalized off a pass from Alex Hoefer, sending the match into halftime level at 1–1.
Villanueva's Second-Half Brilliance
After the break, LCCC regained control. In the 61st minute, Villanueva put the Golden Eagles ahead 2–1 after being set up by goalkeeper Joshua Faerber, who picked up a rare assist with his quick distribution from the back.
Villanueva struck again just seven minutes later, this time finishing off a sharp feed from Evan Perez to double the lead at 3–1. The forward's two-goal performance proved to be the difference as LCCC closed out the match with discipline and energy.
Defensive Strength and Key Saves
Anchored by defenders Usiel Franco-Cruz, Demitri Wiegand, and Tayvin Boeckel, the Golden Eagles' backline absorbed pressure throughout the match. Goalkeeper Joshua Faerber came up big with five saves on six shots on target, ensuring that CSI never found a way back into the contest.
