The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team showed grit and resilience on Friday afternoon, erasing a first-half deficit to secure a 2–1 road victory over Northeastern Junior College. Key goals from David Bojorquez and Darrien Gates II propelled the Golden Eagles to the Region IX win.
First Half: NJC Strikes with a Rare Goal
Northeastern took the lead in the 34th minute on an unusual play when Warre Mondelaers scored directly from a corner kick, curling in an Olympico finish that stunned the Golden Eagles' defense. Despite creating chances of their own, LCCC went into halftime trailing 1–0.
Second Half: Golden Eagles Take Control
The Golden Eagles responded quickly after the break. In the 49th minute, Evan Perez whipped in a dangerous cross that found David Bojorquez, who calmly slotted home the equalizer to bring the game back level at 1–1.
The winner came in the 76th minute, as Bojorquez turned provider. Linking with Tristan Villanueva, he set up Darrien Gates II, who broke free on a 1v1 with the keeper and finished clinically to give LCCC the 2–1 lead. The defense and goalkeeper Joshua Faerber then closed out the match, with Faerber recording two key saves to preserve the result.
