Men's rodeo picks up third place finish in Riverton

RIVERTON, WY – The Laramie County Community College rodeo team saw a nice bump in their second rodeo of the year with the men's team finishing in a season best third place while the women were led by Hanna Mendenhall's success for a second week.

The LCCC men picked up 310 points to finish just behind the University of Wyoming and Casper College in the team race, bumping the group up to sixth in the team standings and putting themselves just 50 points out of fourth in the region.

On the women's side, it was more pedestrian, but a 70-point week kept the team in seventh place in the Central Rocky Mountain Region and within shouting distance of Colorado State University in third.

Bareback saw a very good week for the Golden Eagles with Tate Miller and Rhett Tattrie finishing third and fourth in the average and Miller taking home the second spot in the long go.

With no saddle bronc riders this season, LCCC looked to bull riding for more in the rough stock events, but Tattrie and Gage Hillis were kept at bay by the bulls and are still looking for their first rides of the season.

A pair of Golden Eagles made it back to the short go in tie down and Cory Bomhoff took advantage of a 9.8 in the long go, pairing it with an 11.8 in the short go to finish in fifth in the average, picking up 90 points in the CRMR standings.

Cannon Campbell also made it back to the short go and picked up 35 points with a 10.6 matching with a 12 flat in the short go.

Steer wrestling also saw a slew of Golden Eagles make it back. Bohdi Coombs was third in the short go after finishing tied for fifth in the long go. He finished third in the average with a ten flat on two to pick up 95 points for the weekend.

Gage Davis also made it back after a 4.4 in the long go had him tied for second. He threw his second steer in six seconds to finish in fifth in the average and tack on 85 points to his resume. Chase Olson also made it back after tying with Coombs for fifth in the long go but just missed out on the top six in the average.

Team roping also saw some success for LCCC. Shelby Derner teamed up with former Golden Eagle Thayne Kimbrough and the duo finished in fourth in the average. They also posted the second fastest time of the rodeo with a 6.9 in the long go but failed to catch their steer in the short go and had to settle for 80 points.

Also bringing home points on the women's side was Hanna Mendenhall who added to her tally in barrel racing while getting her first points of the year in goat tying.

Barrels saw Mendenhall ride to a time of 18.21 in the long go which was good for sixth. She knocked over a pair of barrels in the short go which hurt a time that would have been in the top three if it had stayed clean.

Mendenhall was one of the last to make it to the short go in goat tying, but used the extra chance in the short go to put up a 6.9 which was the fourth fastest time of the round and bumped her up to fifth in the average to net her 45 points.

Wacey Day also made it back after finishing tied for fifth in the short go.

The Golden Eagles will be back into the arena this coming weekend when they travel to Sheridan to compete in the Pat Hamilton Memorial Rodeo. Action kicks off on Friday with midday slack. Performances will be at 7:00 pm both Friday and Saturday nights with the short go beginning on Sunday morning.
