LAMAR, CO - Team points didn't amount to much in the standings, but the Laramie County Community College rodeo team finished off with some new faces making noise at the Lamar Community College rodeo, closing out the first half of the Central Rocky Mountain Region season.
The Golden Eagle women finished in fifth with an 80-point week from the team members and the men's team saw the points team gain 45 in the rain and mud that quantified the weekend in southeast Colorado.
The women's team picked up a slew of points from goat tying with Makaylee Fischer having her best rodeo of her career finishing in fourth in the average after her 8.5 in the short go moved her up from the final spot to make the final go. Fischer picked up a total of 75 points over the weekend and it moved her to 12th in the region standings.
Fischer wasn't done in just the goat tying, as the breakaway was even stronger for the sophomore. Her 3.2 in the long go was tied for third and she followed it with a 4.1 in the short go for another 50 points with the second-place finish.
She closed out the rodeo with 200 total points and was in third place by the end of the rodeo for the all-around title.
Wacey Day also added some points in what was a slower spring for the senior. Her 8.0 in the first go picked up 30 points and a 9.8 snuck her into sixth in the short go and in the average for 50 points on the weekend.
Three other Golden Eagles were able to make it back in breakaway, although it was just Shelby Derner who netted points out of it was a 3.3 holding on for fifth in the average. Kassidy Dunagan threw a 3.4 in the long go to make it back, and Emelia Dennison's 3.8 got her back to a short go for the first time in her career as a Golden Eagle.
Another pair of LCCC women made it back in barrel racing. Elizabeth Reeves finished in sixth in the long go with a 19.32 and was just .30 seconds from sixth in the average with a 19.67 in the short go.
Emily Ahlers also made it back but was just outside of the points with a 19.50 on her first ride and a 21.20 on her second.
Tate Miller had a rough ride on his opening bronc in bareback but rallied back in the second chance with a 68 which was tied for 5th in the round.
Rhett Tattrie had his best weekend of the season as the freshman from Canada rode both of his broncs for the first time at the collegiate level.
Gage Davis also kept up momentum in steer wrestling where he made it back to the short go with a 7.1 and finished the rodeo off with a 7.4 which was the fifth best time in the go and moved him to sixth in the average.
The first half of the season closes out with the women's team sitting in sixth place in the CRMR and the men's team in seventh place.
Individually, Davis has the second spot locked down in steer wrestling while Miller sits in fourth place in bareback riding. In tie down, Cory Bomhoff is in a good spot in fifth in the regional standings
