Trinidad, Colo. – The Golden Eagles women's basketball team traveled to Trinidad State Junior College Tuesday to take on the Lady Trojans in a mid-week matchup. The Golden Eagles would top the Trojans 66-57. The win moves LCCC to 3-3 on the year.
The first half was tightly contested but LCCC would use a balance attack to jump out to a 32-28 lead after two quarters. Neither team shot the ball well in the first quarter as both teams combined for 15 points. The second quarter found both teams heating up as LCCC outscored TSJC 23-22. The Golden Eagles would lead 9-6 after the first quarter.
The Golden Eagles outscored the Trojans 16-13 in the third quarter to extend their lead to seven at 48-41. Strong shooting down the stretch would help the Golden Eagles secure the win.
Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah) led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 21 points. Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) would add 15 points. Garreaud completed the double-double with 20 rebounds to go with her 21 points. Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) also added 11 points, shooting 4-11 from the field. Karly Mathern (Windsor, Colorado) added six points.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the road next Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Otero Junior College.
