POWELL, WY - Sophomore guard Anna Terron (Tarragona, Spain) had a season-high eight assists while scoring 15 points to help the Golden Eagles (7-5, 1-1) to a 72-68 win over Northwest (7-5, 1-1) on Saturday Afternoon.
The Golden Eagles used a big second half, outscoring the Trappers 36-19, to come from behind and earn their first Region IX North win of the season
Terron got off to a quick start, opening the scoring by hitting a three as the Golden Eagles and Trappers went back and forth in the first quarter. Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah) scored six of her game-high 19 points in the first quarter as the Golden Eagles outscored the Trappers 18-17.
Northwest used a strong second quarter to take a 39-36 lead into the break. Lucia Fleta (Tenerife, Spain) and Carla Agular (Barcelona) hit back-to-back threes late in the half to lessen the deficit.
Fleta scored 12 points off the bench while Agular produced a career-high 15 points.
LCCC used a late run in the third quarter, ignited by a Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) steal and layup as the Golden Eagles outscored Northwest 20-15 in the third.
Hester ended the game with nine points and five rebounds.
The bench came up big in the fourth quarter. Fleta hit an early three to put the Golden Eagles up five early in the fourth. Northwest put together a 6-2 run before Ariadna Bleda (Barcelona, Spain) ended the run with a layup.
LCCC fended off the Trappers for a 72-68 win. The Golden Eagles outrebounded Northwest 35-26 and forced 18 turnovers.
LCCC heads to Casper to face the Thunderbirds on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
