In a dramatic showdown on the road, the Laramie County Community College (LCCC) Golden Eagles women's basketball team clawed their way back from a halftime deficit to secure a thrilling 65–59 victory over McCook Community College on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 35–30 at halftime, LCCC showcased resilience and grit, outscoring McCook 35–24 in the second half to seal the win. The Golden Eagles turned up the intensity in the third quarter, narrowing the gap with a 19-point surge, and then closed out the game with a dominant defensive performance in the fourth, holding McCook to just 10 points.
LCCC's offensive effort was led by sophmore forward Selenay Tanik, who poured in 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. She was joined in double figures by Jessica Taylor and Sabela Carro, who each contributed 12 points. Taylor knocked down three triples and added two assists, while Carro was a force on both ends, grabbing four rebounds and tallying four steals.
The Golden Eagles' bench played a pivotal role in the comeback. Irelynd Barnes and Julia Sanz Bonet combined for 12 points, with Barnes hitting two key three-pointers and Sanz Bonet adding six points in just 15 minutes of play. Glorielle Mukeba chipped in three points and four rebounds, providing valuable minutes in the paint.
LCCC's defense tightened in the second half, forcing 16 turnovers and limiting McCook's shooting to just 35% from the field. The Golden Eagles also won the rebounding battle, pulling down 31 boards to McCook's 28. Helena Salazar Meinesz also added four steals, while Mukeba added two blocks to stifle McCook's offense.
McCook CC came out firing, led by Carolina Garcia Perdomo, who scored a game-high 18 points, including four three-pointers. Despite a strong first half, McCook struggled to maintain momentum, shooting just 35.3% from beyond the arc and 68.8% from the free-throw line.
