The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles stayed perfect on the season, improving to 3-0 after a commanding 93-54 victory over Otero Junior College at the Blue RAC Arena. While the final score suggests a blowout, the game was anything but easy early on.
The opening half was a tense, back-and-forth affair. Both teams traded baskets and defensive stops, with neither able to create separation. Otero's aggressive play and strong rebounding kept them in the fight, while LCCC struggled to find its offensive rhythm. At the break, the Golden Eagles held a slim two-point lead, leaving the home crowd anxious for a spark.
That spark came in the form of Julia Sanz Bonet, who delivered a game-changing performance off the bench. The sophomore guard poured in 17 points, while shooting 5 of 6 from beyond the arch to ignite LCCC's offense. Her energy helped fuel a decisive third-quarter run that blew the game wide open. Sanz Bonet wasn't the only golden eagle to soar as Hannah Briskey added 15 points, Selenay Tanik added 13 points and 11 rebounds recording her first double double of the season and Alicia Trujillo added 10 points of her own.
From that point on, LCCC dominated. The Golden Eagles outscored Otero 55-18 in the second half, turning a nail-biter into a statement win. Their defense tightened, forcing turnovers and limiting Otero to just 36.8% shooting for the game.
For Otero, Arfuello Fernandez was the bright spot, scoring 17 points. Roy Ibaibarriaga added 13 points, but the team struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 6-of-36 (16.7%) from three-point range.
