Cheyenne, Wyo. — Laramie County Community College women's basketball welcomed Gillette College to Cheyenne on Wednesday evening, competing with energy and resilience before ultimately falling 89–54 in conference action on January 28 at the LCCC.
The Golden Eagles showed early competitiveness, keeping the contest within reach through the opening half. LCCC trailed just 22–19 at the end of the first quarter and remained within striking distance at halftime, down 38–36 after strong defensive stretches and balanced offensive contributions.
Hannah Briskey led LCCC with 10 points and 9 rebounds, anchoring the paint and providing a steady presence on both ends of the floor. Nuria Florensa and Alicia Trujillo added 9 points. Sabela Carro each contributed 7 points, showcasing the Golden Eagles' depth in the backcourt.
LCCC shot 34.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range, creating opportunities against a Gillette team that entered the contest with one of the conference's top offenses. The Golden Eagles also won the hustle battle on the boards early, keeping possessions alive and limiting second-chance opportunities in the first half.
Gillette pulled away in the third quarter behind efficient shooting and transition scoring, outpacing LCCC 31–4 in the period. Despite the momentum shift, the Golden Eagles continued to compete, closing the game with renewed defensive pressure and improved ball movement in the fourth quarter.
Off the bench, Helena Salazar Meinesz sparked LCCC with five points, while Selenay Tanik added eight points, providing energy and physicality against a fast-paced opponent.
The Golden Eagles recorded 33 total rebounds, forced multiple defensive stops, and rotated several younger players into meaningful minutes as they continue to develop experience in conference play.
