Golden Eagles Battle Hard in Home Matchup Against Western Wyoming

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — February 19, 2026 — Laramie County Community College put together a gritty performance on Thursday evening but ultimately fell 74–61 to a sharp-shooting Western Wyoming Community College squad at the LCCC Recreation & Athletics Center.

The Golden Eagles showed stretches of strong execution—particularly in the second quarter, where they outscored the Mustangs 21–12 to close the halftime gap. However, a tough fourth quarter and Western Wyoming's efficiency from the field proved decisive.

Freshman standout Sabela Carro delivered a commanding performance, pouring in 19 points, securing 9 rebounds, and knocking down four three-pointers to energize the Golden Eagles throughout the night. Her versatility on both ends kept LCCC within striking distance during key stretches.

Hannah Briskey added 11 points on an efficient 4-of-8 shooting, while Julia Sanz Bonet contributed 9 points and a three-pointer. LCCC tallied nine made shots from beyond the arc—outpacing Western Wyoming from long range—but couldn't fully overcome the Mustangs' interior presence.

Western Wyoming leaned on a balanced offensive effort, with Amanda Baumgarte (23 points) and Maia Rhay (22 points) combining for 45 of the Mustangs' 74 total points. Their ability to finish at the rim and remain composed under defensive pressure enabled WWCC to maintain control throughout the second half.

The Mustangs outrebounded LCCC 40–35 and shot 44.4% from the field, while the Golden Eagles finished at 39%, despite strong ball movement that generated quality perimeter looks.

One of the brightest moments of the matchup came in the second quarter, where LCCC clamped down defensively and moved the ball effectively in transition. Timely threes from Carro and strong interior possessions swung momentum in the Golden Eagles' favor, cutting what was once a double‑digit deficit.

But foul trouble and late-game turnovers hindered LCCC during the final stretch. Despite the setback, the coaching staff praised the team's fight and continued progression.
