Golden Eagles Dominate Otero in Region IX Showdown

In a pivotal Region IX matchup, the Laramie County Community College women's soccer team delivered another commanding performance, defeating Otero Junior College 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. From the opening whistle, the Golden Eagles controlled the tempo, extending their shutout streak to four games and continuing their impressive run of form.

The breakthrough came early in the 4th minute when LCCC earned a corner kick. Freshman defender Victoria Espinoza stepped up and curled the ball directly into the net for an Olympico goal—her fourth of the season—giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances, LCCC couldn't find a second goal in the first half and went into the break with a narrow lead. But the second half saw the Golden Eagles come out firing.

Just two minutes into the second half, Emily Sheather checked back to receive the ball, turned upfield, and played a perfectly timed through ball into the diagonal run of Avery Anderson. Anderson calmly slotted the ball past OJC goalkeeper Bethany Espinoza to double the lead.

LCCC continued to press, pinning OJC deep in their own half. In the 61st minute, Anderson returned the favor, receiving the ball out wide and delivering a pinpoint cross into the box. Sheather brought it down and finished from six yards out to make it 3-0.

The final goal came in the 67th minute when Emma Cortez drove to the end line and delivered a cut-back cross onto the run of Jentrie Porter, who finished with composure to seal the 4-0 victory.

Defensively, LCCC was rock-solid once again, allowing just two shots all game and securing their fourth consecutive shutout. The backline and goalkeeping unit continue to be a cornerstone of the team's success.

With this win, the Golden Eagles remain unbeaten in Region IX play and will look to carry their momentum into next Saturday's road match against Western Nebraska.
