CASPER, WY - The Golden Eagles knocked off the Lamar Lopes in straight sets to open the Region IX Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
After trading points early, the Golden Eagles rattled off four straight points to take an early 6-2 lead in the first set before winning 19 of the next 29 points, winning the first set 25-12.
Rigan McInerney (Gillette, Wyo.) finished the match with 10 kills and four digs while Shelby Veenstra (Twins Falls, Idaho) finished the match with 33 assists.
LCCC fell behind early in the second set before Kyla Childers (Parker, Colo.) recorded three straight kills to give the Golden Eagles a 8-6 lead. The Golden Eagles would go on to win the 2nd set 25-21.
Childers put together a double-double, tallying 14 kills and 12 digs in the match.
LCCC finished the match off quick, running away with the third set 25-18. Kalme Moncavo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had 10 kills and five digs in the match.
The Golden Eagles will play Northeastern at 3:00 pm.
