Golden Eagles Battle Hard but Fall Short Against McCook, 98–80

McCook, NE — Despite a gritty effort and standout performances from key players, Laramie County Community College couldn't overcome McCook Community College's efficient offense and rebounding edge, falling 98–80 on the road Saturday night.

Sophomore guard TJ Coulter led the way for the Golden Eagles, scoring 23 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in a determined 39-minute outing. Coulter kept Laramie County within striking distance throughout the game, hitting clutch shots and attacking the rim with confidence.

Off the bench, Damarius Roberts provided a spark, dropping 16 points and hitting 3 three-pointers, while Brevin Phillips added 13 points and 4 rebounds in a solid showing from the backcourt.

Laramie County showed resilience on the boards, with Isaac Fiagbe and Coulter each pulling down 7 rebounds, and Karim Elgizawy contributing 6 rebounds and 3 assists. The team totaled 35 rebounds, but struggled to match McCook's physicality inside, as the hosts pulled down 53 boards, including 46 defensive rebounds.

McCook's offense proved difficult to contain, shooting 50.8% from the field and converting 81.3% of their free throws. Laramie County, meanwhile, shot 36.8% overall and 27.5% from deep, unable to find consistent rhythm against McCook's defensive pressure.

Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles showed flashes of promise, especially from their bench unit and perimeter play. Head Coach and staff will look to build on the positives and tighten up defensively as the team prepares for its next matchup.
