Coulter’s 32 Powers LCCC Past Otero in 78–60 Road Victory

Laramie County Community College closed out its two‑game Colorado road swing with an impressive and complete performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Otero College 78–60 behind a dominant second half and a career night from sophomore guard TJ Coulter.

The win moved the Golden Eagles to 1–1 on the trip and showcased their ability to respond with poise and urgency less than 24 hours after a heartbreaking one‑point loss at Trinidad State.

Slow First Half, Strong Finish

LCCC held a modest 26–22 halftime lead, leaning on its defense to steady the game while the offense worked to find rhythm. Otero struggled to generate clean perimeter looks, shooting just 1-for-7 from three in the opening period.

The Golden Eagles themselves shot efficiently but were hampered by early turnovers. Still, contributions from multiple starters — including Brevin Phillips, Isaac Fiagbe, and Karim Elgizawy — helped LCCC maintain control.

Coulter Takes Over

The second half belonged entirely to Coulter.

The sophomore erupted for 32 points, shooting 10-for-19 from the field, knocking down four three-pointers, and attacking downhill to earn 10 trips to the free‑throw line. His ability to score at all three levels broke the game open and stretched the LCCC lead into double digits.

Every time Otero threatened to chip away, Coulter provided the answer.

Supporting Cast Delivers Balance

While Coulter's scoring drew the headlines, LCCC received meaningful contributions across the roster:

  • Brevin Phillips was efficient and steady, recording 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals while guarding multiple positions.
  • Karim Elgizawy facilitated the offense masterfully, adding 12 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals.
  • Anthony Nettles chipped in 6 points off the bench and helped ignite the transition attack.
  • Jephte Tambala and Aeremiah Binford provided spark‑plug minutes, combining for 7 points and key hustle plays.

LCCC finished the game shooting 50.9%, assisting on 17 of 27 made field goals.

Defense Fuels the Separation

A disciplined defensive effort powered the Golden Eagles throughout. LCCC held Otero to 33.3% shooting, including 4-of-19 from three, while forcing 14 turnovers. Otero never found a consistent scoring rhythm, and LCCC's pressure held them to just 22 first‑half points.

The Rattlers managed only sporadic scoring late as the Eagles' physicality, rotations, and rebounding control dictated the game.

Eagles Close Strong

LCCC erupted for 52 second‑half points, combining efficient half‑court execution with a strong running game. A decisive 14–2 stretch midway through the half put the contest out of reach, with Coulter accounting for eight of the 14.

The 18‑point victory marked one of LCCC's most convincing road performances of the season.
