LCCC Sweeps Barton, Lamar

Cheyenne, WY - The Golden Eagles (3-1) won both matches, Saturday, in straight sets, beating Barton (5-1) and Lamar (0-7) to finish off the LCCC Volleyball Invitational at the RAC.

After splitting a pair of games on Friday, the Golden Eagles got going bright and early on Saturday morning, hosting the previously undefeated Barton Community College Cougars in the opener of the final day of the LCCC Volleyball Invitational. 

LCCC stormed out to a big first set lead before putting away the Cougars 25-17 in the first set of the day. The Golden Eagles went on to win the second set 25-15 before hanging on in the final set, winning 25-21 to open the day with a straight sets victory, earning their second win of the season. 

Kyla Childers (Parker, Colo.) finished with eight kills, as did Rigan McInerney (Gillette, Wyo.) to lead the Golden Eagles attack. 

Shelby Veenstra (Twin Falls, Idaho) led the way with 31 assists. Emma Bonney (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tallied nine digs in the win. 

The Golden Eagles came back later in the day, facing Region IX South foe, Lamar. LCCC made quick work of the 'Lopes, dispatching Lamar in three sets, capping off a 3-1 weekend.

Paige Blevins (Cheyenne, Wyo.) and Caely Pickerd (Laramie, Wyo.) combined for 10 kills in the match. 

Hannah Rhoades (Apple Valley, Calif.) recorded six digs in the win. 

LCCC heads to the Lancer Invitational at Eastern Wyoming on February 2 and will face Salt Lake, Northeastern, North Platter, and Western Nebraska.
